Organize PGH Summer Training Program

Fight Back Pittsburgh’s Organize Pittsburgh Summer Organizing Training is a new(er) and more experienced organizers training on key organizing skills, political education, and opportunities to get involved in social movements in Pittsburgh. Each week we will host a political education seminar (Wednesdays at 5:30pm) and a skills based training (Saturdays at 10am. We will also pick 2-3 key events, actions or meetings hosted by local organizations to attend as a group and debrief them as a group afterwards.

All of the sessions are free and open to the public.  Additionally a group of 30 fellows who have committed to participate in the entire program have been matched up with experienced organizers as mentors to help guide them through the program.

The program follows a coherent progression with a specific theme each week. In the first week, we will introduce basic organizing models in place in current social movements. Then in the second week, we will look at Pittsburgh’s rich social movement history. In the third, fourth and fifth weeks, we’ll  dive into key issues at play in the region. In the final week we will dive deeper into the theories of change we’ve explored through the training and start to think about our organizing priorities going forward.

Political Education

Since the election of Donald Trump, scores of new activists and organizers have joined social movements here in Pittsburgh and around the country, bringing a whole new level of energy, enthusiasm and excitement. But energy and enthusiasm alone won’t allow us to build a movement powerful enough to protect our communities and bring about a wave of progressive transformative change. Our movement needs to develop a comprehensive and intersectional political analysis in to guide us in our organizing.

During the Organize Pittsburgh Training Program we will host weekly political education sessions to introduce a wide range of social movements, issue areas, and theories of change.  Political education sessions are Wednesdays at 5:30pm.

Skills Based Trainings

Since the election of Donald Trump, scores of new activists and organizers have joined social movements here in Pittsburgh and around the country, bringing a whole new level of energy, enthusiasm and excitement. But energy and enthusiasm alone won’t allow us to build a movement powerful enough to protect our communities and bring about a wave of progressive transformative change. We need more organizers with the hard skills to move people to action and build sustainable organizational structures.

During the Organize Pittsburgh Training Program we will host weekly skills-based trainings to present tried and true organizing skills from a broad range of social movements.  Skills based trainings will be each Saturday at 10am.

Childcare is available on request for any of these sessions. If you need childcare for an event please shoot us an e-mail at patrick@fightbackpittsburgh.org at least one week before the session you need childcare for.
